Dark Horse: The Private Life of George Harrison
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (April, 1990)
Average review score:

A Fantastic BookThis book is astounding. Geoffrey Gulliano describes in detail the life of the man so few people know about because of his reputation as the "Quiet Beatle". This book takes you from George's early life in Liverpool to his recent one, as an established solo artist. It contains elements such as George's mistakes in life, such as his drug use, along with his accomplishments. A fantastic book on a fantastic man.

David Bailey's Rock and Roll Heroes
Published in Paperback by Thames and Hudson Ltd (01 April, 1997)
Average review score:

Rock And Roll ClassicsThis is a great picture book of some of the greatest stars of rock. The cover of Mick Jagger with a sword in his teeth is worth the price alone. This book has more pictures of the Stones in the early years, even has pics of Brian Jones. There are also pictures of the Beatles, U2, Alice Cooper, The Who, Elton John, Queen, Dylan and many others. Still almost half the book seems to be pictures of the Stones. I highly recommend it to the true rock fan.

Japan's ex-frontman Sylvian...a prolific poet & MusicianBeauty, sensitivity, honesty, and passion are all evident in the work of a man who can only be described as this countries most eclectic and prolific private musician, with work spanning four decades David Sylvian has nothing to prove, with a dedicated following he can confidently move on into any genre he feels willing to explore, this book shows his complex thoughts and ideals. Trophies 2 points specifically to his past and present lyrics and helps to understand the music and the textures he creates, this is'nt just for the besotted Sylvian follower but for the writers and poets of the next generation.

Days of the New
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (July, 2000)
Average review score:

Days of the New brings days of new riffs and techniquesDays of the New started in a garage. They worked out into the world, of course, and now they have their own CD with their own tablature book. Simply being Travis Meeks (lead guitarist for the band) and being able to come up with so much beautiful music and melodies is something to be proud of. But writing out everything that he plays? Wow. The person who figured out what is being played doesn't even know Days of the New personally, he simply listened and wrote. And it's perfect. This book is based solely on guitar tablature notation, making it very simple to read and (yeah right) play. Many chords are also simply numbered out in a vertical line on the tabs. Hence, the uniform layout seems to present itself as a 5-star book. The references to tuning for guitarists on each song even goes as far back as the 3rd or 4th guitar. The only problem is that occasionally on repeats and non-solos, you must figure out what to play and how to play it by looking at the chord charts provided over the notation. Otherwise, it's a beautiful book that can help you to play New for Days.

Dazzling Stranger: Bert Jansch and the British Folk and Blues Revival
Published in Hardcover by Bloomsbury Pub Ltd (September, 2000)
Average review score:

Bert's Boswell Comes ThroughAnyone with an interest in Scottish born guitarist Bert Jansch will know that author Colin Harper has been collecting material for this biography for some years now. Colin has collected interviews with friends, fans and family and those involved in the "business affairs" of Bert's past and present and has wove them into an in -depth, objective volume on the respected and, to many, awe -inspiring musician. Covering Bert's introduction to folk song and blues as a young man in Glasgow, to the 60s London scene, through difficult "health problems" during the 80s and the Bert "renaissance" of the 90s, Colin treats his subject with objective respect and just a touch of the fan enthusiasm one would hope for to make this a wonderful read. Well done Colin!
